THE 2012 Ballarat Cup is shaping as one of my last.
Now in my 60s, I’m considering retirement in the near future.
I’ve held a role as groundsman with the Ballarat Turf Club for the past 15 years and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. During this time, I’ve experienced the ups and downs of the sport, but I believe the club is in a great position moving forward.
For the past few weeks I’ve been busy mowing the course and surrounding 500 acres of the Dowling Forest precinct.
With just a couple of days to go until the main event, and with the warm weather kicking in, plenty of water is going on the track to ensure it remains in the dead 5 range at the start of raceday.
Decoration of the makeshift winning post for the Magic Millions clockwise race will be completed today, as will a final clean-up of the facilities by Rob Tilly as all comes together for one of Ballarat’s biggest social events of the year.
