BENDIGO’s three professional golfers are in the top 15 after the opening round of the New Zealand Open.
Axedale’s Kris Mueck shares second place at two-under par, two shots behind leader Craig Hancock.
On a tough day for shooting low scores, Mueck led the tournament when he charged to five-under par after 13 holes.
However, three bogeys in his final five holes saw him drop to two-under par.
Heath Reed looked like joining Mueck at two-under par, but a bogey on the 18th saw him drop to one-under par.
Andrew Martin is a further shot back in a tie for 13th at even-par.
Only 12 players broke par for the day in windy conditions at Clearwater Golf Club in Christchurch.
Reed and Martin will be looking to take advantage of morning tee times in today’s second round.
