NOBODY can argue that Jesse Burrows hasn’t pulled his weight in 2012.
The Burnie teenager has made an huge impression in the world of powerlifting after taking up the sport last year, and has taken out this year’s The Advocate IGA Rising Star Award.
His meteoric rise up the ranks this year has seen him break multiple national and world records for his age group.
His success started at the Tasmanian championships in Hobart, where he set world records in the dead-lift and total weight categories for his age and weight group, along with breaking four Australian records.
The 17-year-old then took his talents to Albury-Wodonga for the Australian titles, returning home with another five national records and 10 world records, again across the dead-lift and the total weight divisions, while equalling his best in the squat and bench sections.
Burrows, who trains up to four days a week out of the Powerstation gym at Wynyard, is looking to international competitions to continue his record-breaking feats.
