THE results of the Herald’s online poll about Newcastle bus services sends a clear message to the state government that buses need to be more frequent and direct.
For far too long the government’s attitude has been to provide just a skeleton service as most passengers using it are students or pensioners on concession fares.
I believe many more people would travel by bus rather than drive their cars if buses ran more frequently and took them to their destinations without doing a ‘‘Cook’s tour’’ of the neighbourhood.
And what about providing at least a bench at every bus stop for waiting passengers? Surely that’s not asking too much.
